誉田別の即位。

誉田別（ホムタワケ）は仲哀（チュウアイ）天皇の第四子です。
誉田別の母は気長足姫（オキナガタラシヒメ）です。
仲哀の９年。１２月。
誉田別は神功皇后が新羅を討伐した年に生まれた。
生まれた場所は筑紫の蚊田（カダ）です。
誉田別は幼少から聡明でした。
誉田別は物事を深く遠くまで見通した。
誉田別の立ち振る舞いに、不思議なほど聖なる帝の兆しがあった。

神功皇后の３年。
誉田別は皇太子になった。
その時、誉田別は三歳だった。
皇太后が仲哀天皇の子を妊娠している時、天神地祇が三韓を与えた。
誉田別が生まれた時に腕に肉がついていた。
その形が鞆（弓を射る時の防具）の様だった。
これは皇太后が男装をして鞆を装備した姿に合っているからだろう。
それでその姿を称え誉田天皇と言います。
古代の一般人は鞆をホムタと言いました。

ある言い伝えによると、
誉田別がはじめて皇太子になった時、彼は越の国に行った。
誉田別は笥飯（ケヒ）の大神に参拝した。
この時、大神と太子の名前を交換した。
その為に大神を來紗別（イザサワケ）の神と呼びます。

太子を誉田別と名付けた。
これによると、大神の元の名前は誉田別になります。
太子の元の名前は來紗別になります。
しかし、それを示す証拠がどこにも無い。
その為に詳細は判りません。

神功皇后の６９年。夏。４月。
摂政の皇太后が死んだ。
この時皇太后は１００歳だった。

応神の元年。春。１月１日。
誉田別は即位した。
