あなたは皇位に就任し、安らかに全ての政治をするのが良いでしょう。」
この言葉は、武内宿禰が偽造した。
気長足姫（オキナガタラシヒメ）はそんな気はなかった。
武内宿禰は全軍に弓の弦を切るように命令し、次に刀を川に捨てるように命令した。
武内宿禰軍は命令に従った。
忍熊親王はその言葉と行動を信じた。
忍熊親王は全軍に弓の弦を切って武器を川に捨てるように命令した。
武内宿禰は忍熊親王軍が弦を切って武器を川に捨てたのを見て号令した。
「予備の弦を付けて、真剣を装備しなさい。」
そして武内宿禰軍は川を渡った。
忍熊親王は騙されたことを知った。
忍熊親王は倉見別（クラミワケ）と五十狭茅宿禰（イサチスクネ）に言った。
「私は騙されてしまった。
今、我々が使える武器は無い。
戦う事が出来ない。」
そう言うと、忍熊親王は撤退を命令した。
武内宿禰は精鋭軍に追撃命令を出した。
精鋭軍は近江の逢坂で追いついた。
逢坂で忍熊親王軍の大半が殺された。
忍熊親王軍の生き残りはさらに逃げた。
近江のササナミの栗の林に来たところで、忍熊親王軍の残りが殺された。
栗の林が血に溢れた。
この故事を嫌って今も近江の栗を朝廷にプレゼントいしていない。
忍熊親王は逃げ隠れする場所が無かった。
忍熊親王は五十狭茅宿禰を呼び、辞世を詠んだ。
イザアギ、イサチスクネ、タマキハル、ウチノアソガ、クブツチノ、イタデオハスハ、ニホドリノ、カヅキセナ。
意味：ああわが君主、五十狭茅宿禰、武内宿禰に頭を槌で割られる痛手を負う前に、鳰鳥（カイツブリ）のように水に潜って死のう。
忍熊親王と五十狭茅宿禰は田んぼの用水路に沈んで死んだ。
武内宿禰はその様子を見て詠んだ。
アフミノミ、セタノワタリニ、カヅクトリ、メニシミエネバ、イキドホロシモ。
意味：琵琶湖の海の瀬田の渡りで、潜る鳥が見えなくなった、不満だ。
武内宿禰は死体を探したが見つからなかった。
死体は数日経過してから宇治川で見つかった。
武内宿禰は死体を見て詠んだ。
アフミノミ、セタノワタリニ、カヅクトリ、タナカミスギテ、ウヂニトラエツ。
意味：琵琶湖の海の瀬田の渡りで潜った鳥は、田上を越えて、宇治で捕まえた。
