倭彦（ヤマトヒコ）が死んだ。
倭彦は活目（イクメ）の母の弟だ。
11月2日。
活目は倭彦を身狭（ムサ）の桃花鳥坂（ツキサカ）に埋葬した。
この時、使用人を集めて生きたまま陵墓の周りに埋めた。
使用人たちは数日たっても死ななかった。
使用人たちは常に泣き呻いていた。
さらに数日が経過して使用人たちは衰弱した。
犬や鳥等の獣が集まり、それらが使用人たちを喰らった。
使用人たちは死んでいった。
活目は泣き呻く声を聞き心痛した。
活目は官僚に対して言った。
「生きている時に使役した人々を、亡者に殉死させる事はよくない。
古の法であっても良くない事は変えなければいけない。
これからは皆で殉死を止めるように計画しなさい。」

垂仁の30年。春。1月6日。
活目は五十瓊敷（イニシキ）、大足彦（オオタラシヒコ）に言った。
「あなた達の欲しい物は何ですか。
それぞれ言いなさい。」
五十瓊敷が言った。
「弓矢が欲しい。」
大足彦が言った。
「天皇の地位が欲しい。」
活目は言った。
「それぞれの望みのままに与えよう。
五十瓊敷に弓矢を与える。
大足彦は私の後天皇になりなさい。」
